The postseason kicked off on Wednesday and Game 1 of the Montreal-Ottawa series lived up to the hype. It was a wild and wacky game but at the end of the day, the Habs have the early lead after a 4-3 win.

It may not have been the prettiest of victories but the Habs ended their season with a pair of wins to secure first place in their division for the second time in three years.

The surprising freefall of the Penguins in the past several weeks has dropped them to a wild card spot and with that, has given the Canadiens yet another potential first round opponent. How do the Habs match up with Pittsburgh?

The Habs didn’t have much success this past week but did enough to hold onto first in the Atlantic as we hit the home stretch on the season. Hamilton also struggled, losing both of their games and really hurting their playoff odds in the process.

With Detroit having moved to the East just recently, there hasn’t been much of an opportunity for the Habs to play many meaningful games against them, let alone develop a rivalry. However, there is a pretty good chance these two could meet in the postseason which would change that in a hurry.

Although the Habs lost two of three this past week, they were able to officially clinch a playoff spot and remain at the top of the East. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs had a strong week to keep their postseason hopes alive as well.

Just a few short weeks ago, the Ottawa Senators were on the outside looking in at the postseason with little hope that they could get them back into the playoff race. Now, not only do they find themselves in a playoff spot but they may very well face the Habs in Round 1.

Although there are still a few weeks left before the start of the postseason, we have a good idea about a few teams that Montreal could face in the first round. How would they match up against their long-time rival in Boston?
