The Habs have locked up Samuel Montembeault for a few more years, announcing on Friday that they’ve signed him to a three-year contract extension. The deal, which begins in 2024-25, carries a $3.15 million cap hit.
The Habs returned home on Thursday to take on the Panthers. The game was close through 40 minutes but Florida was able to score early and often on Cayden Primeau in the third as they picked up the 5-1 victory.
Montreal’s road trip came to an end on Wednesday as they were in Columbus to face the Blue Jackets. They were able to overcome a very sloppy start, setting the stage for a late game-winner in a 4-2 victory.
In the late 1960s, former GM Sam Pollock lamented a lack of physicality in his team. Today, Martin St. Louis hasn’t made such a statement but it’s an element in Montreal’s game that needs to be addressed.

The Habs had their California portion of the schedule this past week, a stretch that typically causes them some difficulty. While it certainly didn’t end well, they still came out of that portion of the road trip with a pair of victories.
The Habs looked to make it a clean California sweep on Saturday as they took on Los Angeles. Instead, they put forth one of their ugliest efforts of the season, falling 4-0.
It took a comeback in the second half of the game but the Habs were able to get it in San Jose on Friday afternoon, opening the door for Jesse Ylonen to be the hero in the shootout as Montreal picked up a 3-2 victory.
