While the Habs still don’t have full details of Kirby Dach’s injury, they do know it’s a significant one as they announced on Monday that it will not be a short-term recovery time.

The Habs kicked off their 2023-24 campaign with a pair of Original Six games. They blew a late lead against Toronto and nearly did the same on Saturday against Chicago although they were able to come out of the week with three of a possible four points.

Montreal nearly squandered another multi-goal lead in the third period in their home opener on Saturday but they were able to hold on just enough to pick up their first win of the season, 3-2 over Chicago.

Wednesday’s season-opener in Toronto featured huge momentum shifts needed a shootout to decide the winner. This is really great news for the Habs’ even strength play considering they made it that far while losing the special teams battle although they ultimately fell 6-5.

The 5:00 PM ET season-opening roster deadline has come and gone.  There aren’t too many surprises on there for Montreal but Joel Armia, who cleared waivers earlier on Monday, is on the roster, for now at least.

Sunday is the final day for waiving players in advance of Monday’s season-opening roster deadline.  The Habs were busy on that front today, placing both Joel Armia and Gustav Lindstrom on waivers.

Montreal’s final preseason game was on Saturday night as the Habs travelled to Ottawa to take on the Senators. The Habs squandered the lead in the third period but rebounded with three unanswered after that to pick up the 6-4 win.
