Montreal didn’t score pass the six-minute mark of the first period on Tuesday against Columbus but it didn’t matter as they scored three times in that opening stretch while Cayden Primeau shut the door for his second shutout of the year.
The Habs capped off the back half of their tough road trip with a split before putting up a decent effort against Toronto in their first game back although they ultimately came up short.
The Habs kept pace with Toronto for most of the night on Saturday but a late John Tavares goal was the difference-maker as the Maple Leafs picked up the 3-2 victory.
While it has taken a while, the three-goalie rotation in Montreal has come to an end as the Habs have traded Jake Allen to New Jersey for a conditional 2025 third-round pick.
After a solid win in Nashville on Tuesday, the Habs looked to end their road trip on a high note in Carolina on Thursday. They were in it for a while but the Hurricanes eventually pulled away and collected the 4-1 victory.
