These next players in our draft rankings are likely out of reach for the Montreal Canadiens as they are too late to select with the fifth overall selection and will be gone to select with the Winnipeg first-rounder. However, if they want one of them, they could always look to trade to move up to get that prospect.
Our next group of first-round prospects fall into a range where the Habs might be hoping that some of these players slip to 26 but more realistically, they may have to try to trade up to get one of them.

With the 2024 NHL Entry Draft less than two weeks away, it’s time for our final rankings. We begin with how the second round might look like and what players could be potential targets for the Habs.
The Habs closed out their regular season on Tuesday night in a rematch with Detroit. For the second straight night, Detroit scored late to push the game to overtime. It took a shootout this time around but the Red Wings were victorious, winning 5-4.
After an offensive breakout on Tuesday, the Habs weren’t able to muster up much in the way of quality chances against the Islanders on Thursday. While they were able to get it to overtime, New York picked up the early overtime winner, giving them the much-needed extra point in a 3-2 win.
The Habs faced another tough opponent to close off their weekend back-to-back as they were in New York to take on the league-leading Rangers on Sunday. Cayden Primeau was peppered early and often and while he was sharp, New York still picked up the 5-2 victory.
All the scoring was done in the first period on Tuesday night in Colorado. The Habs picked up two of those three tallies, allowing them to end their road trip on a winning note with a 2-1 victory.
The Habs pulled off a comeback on Tuesday night in Edmonton, scoring twice in the third to send the game to overtime. However, Leon Draisaitl scored the winner on the power play in the extra session to give the Oilers the 3-2 win.
