Strengths
Excellent vision and playmaking abilities. Is a threat to score on every
shift. Understands the game well. Has a way to finding the open man and getting
him the puck. Hard working player that makes up for his size with an impressive
set of skills offensively.
Weaknesses
Size, skating, speed and defensive play are of a concern. Will need to
improve his skating and speed, but must get stronger or he will have problems
containing his man down low in the defensive zone. Could use some work on his
defensive play as well.

HW Updates, by Dan Linn
Canadiens Mid-season Top 20 – 16. Corey Locke-
C. (16th) Locke stays where he was at the start of the
season, which is a bit unfair, as he has shown an impressive ability to score
with less talented wingers, but the real test for him will be in the AHL, where
he will look to show why he was selected the CHL player of the year last season.
Not blessed with NHL size, Locke has extremely impressive vision on the ice, as
he has the ability to find the open man and thread him the pass in the tightest
of areas. Locke has put up 92 goals over the last season and half, as he was one
of the highest scoring players in the OHL over the last ten years.
March 2004 – Playoffs – Ottawa 67’s – Corey Locke won the
scoring title in the OHL for the second season in a row, and hopefully he will
have the same success he had in last years playoffs as he was practically
unstoppable with 38 points in 23 games. This year Locke and the 67’s will face
the Brampton Battalion tonight in the first round as Ottawa has home ice
advantage for winning their division. Locke has proven that he can score almost
at will in the OHL, as he has recorded 268 points during the last two regular
seasons, but a strong playoff drive should all but force management to sign him
over the summer, instead of letting him return to the OHL for a final season.
February 2004 – Locke continues to dominate the OHL, as he
just recently hit the century mark for the second season in a row. Over the last
two seasons, Locke has piled up over 250 points is just 121 games which shows
why he was chosen the CHL player of the year last season and could be named
again if not for a young Crosby in the QMJHL. What’s impressive for Locke is
that he is achieving all of his success this season while playing on a much
younger team.
January 2004 – Locke has been on fire lately, as he has
picked up 27 points over the last 11 games, an impressive feat considering has
to play with some inexperienced wingers at times. He is currently second in the
OHL in scoring, as he has amassed an astounding 219 points in his last 104 games
with 92 goals over that span. Locke has proven he can rack up the points in
juniors, the next test for him will be in the American league, as the players
get bigger, stronger and faster.
December 2003 – Locke played for Team OHL ve Team Russia in
the remax games but was unable to get a return invite to the selection camp for
Team Canada. He still leads his team in scoring, but points have been harder to
come by recently.
November 2003 – After leading the entire CHL in scoring last
year, Locke had a difficult task of adjusting to new linemates, and a team
without the talented and experienced players of last year. So far so good, as
Locke is 3rd in the OHL in scoring, and he has close to double the
points of any player on his team. Locke was also named to Team OHL in the Remax
games vs Team Russia. He also has a good chance to make Team Canada’s U-20 WJC
roster.
October 2003 – Is currently 3rd in the OHL in
scoring, and 1st in scoring on his team. Things have not been easy in
Ottawa, as Locke has had a few different linemates so far this season, after
having the same wingers game after game last year.
October 2003 – Special Report – (‘03, 4th round
113th)C. From one Cory to another Corey, Ottawa 67 and the CHL
leading scorer, Corey Locke has also gotten off to a quick start in the OHL.
Their were several questions in regards to Locke’s production levels without his
two wingers from last year. Would he be able to repeat his offensive prowess
with new linemates and more attention from opposing teams? Well so far Locke has
answered the questions and silenced his critics by leading the OHL in scoring in
the earliest parts of the season.
September 2003 – After being named the CHL player of the
year, Locke is back in action for the Ottawa 67’s, but the team is not as strong
as last season, and Locke will be without last years wingers Foy and Shepard. So
far he’s continued where he left off, in five games he has six goals, six
assists, 4 penalty minutes, while being a +1. 5-6-6-12 4 +1 Locke is the main
weapon in Ottawa, and opposing teams know this, so he will under heavy pressure
from other teams defense.
