HabsWorld.net --
Following a mass group of cuts by the Habs over the weekend, Laval released its initial training camp roster consisting of 32 players with their first practice slated for Tuesday.
The roster is listed below. Players in italics are on ECHL contracts while players with an asterisks are on straight tryout agreements.
Forwards (19)
Vincent Arseneau, Alex Beaucage, Owen Beck, Lucas Condotta, Xavier Cormier, Laurent Dauphin, Jared Davidson, Brandon Gignac, Sean Farrell, Riley Kidney, Filip Mesar, Israel Mianscum, Logan Nijhoff, Jakov Novak, Jacob Perreault, Charles Savoie*, Xavier Simoneau, Luke Tuch, Florian Xhekaj
Defence (10)
Eric Gelinas*, Zack Hayes, Josh Jacobs, Chris Jandric, Simon Motew*, Jacob Paquette, Vincent Sevigny, Cory Thomas, William Trudeau, Tyler Wotherspoon
Goalies (3)
Luke Cavallin, Hunter Jones, Connor Hughes
Condotta and Gignac were able to be added today after successfully passing through waivers unclaimed.
Of the tryouts, Savoie and Motew have been around since rookie camp while Gelinas is a name some will recognize. The 33-year-old played for Laval in 2017-18, scoring 13 goals and 13 assists in 64 games. Since then, he has played in Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland, along with a brief nine-game AHL stretch in 2021-22.
This won’t be the full group that starts the season as the Canadiens still have several cuts to make before their regular season gets underway next week. However, this likely will be the group that makes the bus trip to Belleville on Thursday in advance of a pair of games, Friday vs the Senators and Saturday against the Marlies. Their regular season schedule gets underway on October 11th.
