There was plenty of enthusiasm as a young Laval squad kicked off its 2023-24 campaign with a pair of games against Abbotsford. However, some struggles in their own end resulted in a pair of losses on home ice.
Only one team showed up to play at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night and it wasn’t the Habs. The end result was a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Wild; what an ugly loss that was!
While the Habs still don’t have full details of Kirby Dach’s injury, they do know it’s a significant one as they announced on Monday that it will not be a short-term recovery time.
The Habs kicked off their 2023-24 campaign with a pair of Original Six games. They blew a late lead against Toronto and nearly did the same on Saturday against Chicago although they were able to come out of the week with three of a possible four points.
Montreal nearly squandered another multi-goal lead in the third period in their home opener on Saturday but they were able to hold on just enough to pick up their first win of the season, 3-2 over Chicago.
As usual, it was a summer of turnover for the Laval Rocket. However, rather than skewing toward a veteran-laden team, the one that takes to the ice tonight for their opener will be a much younger group.
After the Habs wrapped up a competitive training camp earlier in the week, the focus shifts to Laval whose season opener is on Friday. Two of Montreal’s final cuts highlight their players to watch in the early going this season.
Wednesday’s season-opener in Toronto featured huge momentum shifts needed a shootout to decide the winner. This is really great news for the Habs’ even strength play considering they made it that far while losing the special teams battle although they ultimately fell 6-5.
