There was a theme for the Habs this past week as all three of their games ended with an identical 5-2 score. Two of those three contests resulted in victories on the heels of some strong goaltending.

The Habs ventured into the trade market on Sunday, announcing the acquisition of winger Denis Gurianov from Dallas in exchange for winger Evgenii Dadonov.

For the third game in a row, the Habs played to a 5-2 score on Saturday night. However, this time they were on the losing end as Ottawa picked up the victory.

The Habs kicked off a back-to-back set on Friday night with a stop in Philadelphia. The Flyers didn’t put up a lot of resistance which allowed Montreal to take the lead early and not look back. Newcomer Chris Tierney scored in his debut in a 5-2 victory.

With the team battling several injuries up front, the Habs decided to add some forward depth on Thursday, announcing that they’ve claimed centre Chris Tierney off waivers from Florida.

After a tough loss in Toronto on Saturday, the Habs continued their road trip on Tuesday with a visit to New Jersey. They were outshot and outchanced by a significant margin but in the end, goaltending was the difference as Montreal picked up the 5-2 win.

From the moment he was acquired, it has been expected that Sean Monahan would be moved by next Friday’s trade deadline. However, given his injury situation, perhaps another approach makes more sense now.

The Habs were able to finish up their homestand on a winning note but things didn’t go anywhere near as well on the road as their four-game road trip kicked off with a pair of tough losses to two of the stronger teams in the Eastern Conference. Plus, some thoughts on Jonathan Drouin’s recent improvement.

While the Canadiens were able to open up the scoring on Saturday night in Toronto, things went downhill from there in a hurry as the Maple Leafs picked up five unanswered goals to take the 5-1 victory.
