HabsWorld.net --
Following their intrasquad scrimmage game on Sunday, the Canadiens started to trim their training camp roster as they announced that four players have been returned to their respective junior teams.
Departing Montreal’s camp are the following:
F Cedrick Guindon (to Owen Sound, OHL)
G Quentin Miller (to Quebec, QMJHL)
G Jan Spunar (released from ATO, to Portland, WHL)
F Florian Xhekaj (to Brantford, OHL)
None of the four come as much surprise as they weren’t expected to contend for roster spots with the Habs. Xhekaj actually scored in today’s scrimmage while Guindon and Miller also played but with junior seasons getting underway soon (the QMJHL has already started), it makes sense for these players to be sent back.
Montreal now has 68 players remaining in training camp. Their preseason gets underway on Monday as they host New Jersey. It’s believed that the players who didn’t suit up in the intrasquad game will take part in that one which means the Habs will have Samuel Montembeault, Kaiden Guhle, David Reinbacher, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Alex Newhook among the group of players that will take on the Devils.
