Habs Cut 31 Players From Training Camp

Prior to Saturday’s game against Toronto, the Habs announced a sizable group of cuts from training camp.  Not counting the four players waived earlier in the day, the team trimmed their camp roster by 31.

The players sent to Laval before the game are as follows:

Forwards (14)

Gabriel Bourque, Jared Davidson, Isaac Dufort, Brandon Gignac, Nathan Legare, Riley McKay, Filip Mesar, Jan Mysak, Jakov Novak, Joshua Roy, Xavier Simoneau, Ty Smilanic, Alex-Olivier Voyer, Nolan Yaremko

Defencemen (8)

Tobie Bisson, Stanislav Demin, Olivier Galipeau, Noah Laaouan, Christopher Ortiz, John Parker-Jones, Jayden Struble, Miguel Tourigny

Goalies (3)

Zachary Emond, Strauss Mann, Joe Vrbetic

Out of these cuts, there aren’t many surprises as most of the players listed are on AHL contracts.  The one cut that is somewhat notable is Roy who had held his own in his two preseason appearances.  Clearly, management feels that he will need some time in Laval.  Training camp for the Rocket will get underway on Monday and these players will be joined by the four players currently on waivers unless they get claimed on Sunday.

In addition to these cuts, Owen Beck was also cut and was re-assigned to Peterborough of the OHL.  Still just 19, he’s ineligible to be sent to Laval until his major junior season comes to an end.

Following the game, five more cuts were made. Jakub Dobes, Riley Kidney, Sean Farrell, and William Trudeau were sent to Laval while David Reinbacher was sent back to Kloten in Switzerland.
