Habs re-sign Lucas Condotta and Nicolas Beaudin

The Canadiens took care of two of their remaining three restricted free agents on Thursday, announcing the re-signings of forward Lucas Condotta and defenceman Nicolas Beaudin to two-way contracts.  Condotta received a two-year agreement while Beaudin’s deal is for a single season.

Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed but CapFriendly reports that Beaudin’s contract is worth $775,000 in the NHL, $90,000 in the AHL, and has a total guarantee of $110,000.  Meanwhile, CapFriendly pegs Condotta’s deal as being worth $775,000 in the NHL and $125,000 in the AHL for next season with a $150,000 guarantee.  The last two numbers jump to $200,000 and $225,000 respectively in 2024-25.

Montreal signed Condotta as an undrafted free agent back in 2022, allowing him to suit up for Laval during their playoff run.  Last season was his first full campaign in the pros and he spent the bulk of that with the Rocket in their bottom six, notching 16 goals and 15 assists while being the only player to suit up in all 72 games.  The 25-year-old was recalled to Montreal for the final game of the regular season and he made an immediate impact, scoring on his first shift.

As for Beaudin, the Habs acquired him early in the season from Chicago in exchange for Cam Hillis.  The 23-year-old was a first-round pick by the Blackhawks back in 2018 but has only played in 22 career NHL appearances.  Last season, Beaudin only played in the minors and picked up 26 points in 42 games.  He’ll be counted on as one of Laval’s offensive threats from the back end next season.

Both players will need to clear waivers in the fall to make it back to the Rocket.  Beaudin went through without an issue last season and is likely to pass through without an issue again.  Condotta, meanwhile, will be exposed to the wire for the first time if he doesn’t land a roster spot with Montreal in training camp.

With these signings, the Canadiens now have one remaining restricted free agent, Jesse Ylonen who was not arbitration-eligible this summer.
