After going a few years between seeing games live, here are some comments on the Habs based on in-person viewings from their games in Tampa Bay and Florida.
The second half of Montreal’s trip to Florida saw them take on the Panthers on Thursday night. Once again, it was a struggle as Aleksander Barkov had a hat-trick in the first period as Florida skated to an easy 7-2 win.
The Habs were a bit sluggish coming out of the holiday break and that’s never a good thing against Tampa Bay. The Lightning came to play in this one, controlling the game throughout en route to a 4-1 victory.
Last week wound up being a light one for Laval with one of their games being postponed due to weather. Unfortunately for them, the one they did play didn’t have a happy ending. Even worse, their rapidly thinned-out defensive depth has taken two more recent hits.
With David Savard and Mike Matheson both out, the Habs have recalled defenceman Justin Barron from Laval.
The 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship is set to run from December 26th through January 5th and the Habs will be very well represented with six prospects named to the original rosters plus a seventh joining mid-tournament. As usual, we’ll keep track of their stats here.
