We won’t find out who is officially on Montreal’s protection list for the upcoming expansion draft until Sunday but according to a report, Carey Price has elected to waive his no-move clause, allowing the Habs to protect Jake Allen from the Kraken.
It wasn’t that long ago that left wing was Montreal’s position of strength among the three forward spots. That has really changed on the current roster although they also have strengthened their prospect core on the left side in recent years.
The Habs took care of another pending free agent on Friday but in a different manner than usual. Jake Lucchini, who had been on an NHL deal with Montreal, has signed a one-year contract with Laval for next season.
One of Laval’s top forwards will be sticking around as on Thursday, the Habs announced that they’ve re-signed winger Alex Belzile to a one-year, two-way contract extension.
Shea Weber’s thumb injury that he played through during the playoffs wasn’t expected to cost him much time but it appears there are other injuries that will be an issue. Multiple reports came out on Wednesday night suggesting that Weber could miss all of next season due to lingering left foot and ankle issues.
Another day, another contract for someone behind the bench. On Wednesday, the Canadiens announced that they’ve signed assistant coach Luke Richardson to a three-year deal. His contract was set to expire later this month.
