After a strong sophomore season at Northeastern, it felt like there was a chance that Jordan Harris would turn pro. However, he has decided to stick around for at least one more year and won’t sign with the Habs for next season, according to Sportsnet’s Eric Engels.
Harris was a third-round pick of the Canadiens back in 2018 and has shown quite a bit of promise since then. He quickly worked his way onto Northeastern’s top pairing in his freshman year and spent most of this season there as well. He also held his own with Team USA at the World Juniors and picked up the game-winner for the Huskies in the annual Beanpot tournament last month.
That said, his calling card is more of a defensive defenseman than an offensive one. He has just four goals over 72 college games so far but he’s a premium skater with a good sense for how to play in his own end. In other words, he’s not going to be a flashy player but he’ll still be an effective one.
Harris won’t be the only Hab at Northeastern next season as Jayden Struble will be back for his sophomore campaign there as well. Montreal’s left side of the back end has been an issue for a while now but the pair are among their top youngsters at that position even if they’ll have to wait a bit longer before they can start developing Harris (Struble is multiple years away from signing).
