Habs sign Mike Condon to a two year extension

On Thursday morning, the Habs announced the signing of goaltender Mike Condon to a two year contract extension. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but reports suggest his NHL salary in both seasons will be $575,000. Condon is in his first full season with the Hamilton Bulldogs and has been one of the AHL’s top netminders all year.

Condon signed with the Canadiens in May of 2013 after a four year college career (plus a brief stint with Minnesota’s ECHL and AHL teams). Last season, he suited up primarily with Montreal’s East Coast affiliate in Wheeling, posting a 23-10-4 record with a stellar 2.18 GAA and a .931 SV% to go along with six shutouts.

The 24 year old was pegged to share time with veteran Joey MacDonald with the Bulldogs but Condon has secured the #1 reins with a very strong start to the year. In 26 games, he has a 14-9-3 record with a 2.10 GAA and a .931 SV% with a pair of shutouts. With a lot of the Bulldogs having some offensive struggles lately, Condon has stolen quite a few games as of late.

While terms of the deal were not made official, it will be structured similar to Dustin Tokarski’s current contract which was signed partway through last year. The first season is a two-way salary with a healthy increase on the $65,000 he’s currently receiving in the AHL while the second year is a one-way salary at the league minimum.
