It was a frustrating month for the Montreal Canadiens and their fans, as the
Habs posted their worst totals so far this year. With a 6-6-1 record, the
Canadiens slipped out of a divisional playoff spot, clinging in the meantime to
a wildcard berth.
After playing stingy defence for the vast majority of the year, the Canadiens’
defence fell to shambles, and without the brilliant play of Olympian Carey
Price, the end results could have been much worse.
In light of the losses,
there were some positives in January; the Habs won a thrilling overtime winner
against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks and beat their
perennial rivals, the Boston Bruins, Nathan Beaulieu was recalled and showed
some great offensive potential and exceptional skating, and the
ever-controversial P.K. Subban was named to the Canadian Olympic team.
