There weren’t a lot of differing opinions this month when our HabsWorld
readers voted for December’s 3 Stars. In fact, with only a few exceptions,
the vast majority of ballots contained a combination of the following four
players. These standout players from December are listed below.
1st Star | Max Pacioretty | 14 GP – 8 G – 1 A – 9 P – Minus 2 |
|
After taking home the second star last month, Pacioretty’s goal-scoring prowess propelled him to the top spot in December. He had twice as many goals as any other Hab while his three game-winners equalled the rest of the team combined. After a sluggish start to the year, Pacioretty has found his way alongside long-time linemate David Desharnais, giving the Habs a legitimate scoring threat on a nightly basis. |

2nd Star | Carey Price | 11 GP – 7 W – 3 L – 1 OTL – 2.45 GAA – 0.916 SV% |
|
Price earns a spot in our three stars for the third month in a row this year. Although his numbers were down a bit in December, he kept piling up the wins, allowing the Habs to stay comfortably in a playoff position. He allowed one or fewer goals in four of his starts and is most certainly in the mix to be named Canada’s starting goalie in the Olympics |

3rd Star | David Desharnais | 14 GP – 2 G – 9 A – 11 P – Minus 4 |
|
2013 has been a tale of two players when it comes to David Desharnais. The first recorded a solitary assist in his first 19 games, prompting Montreal’s Major to suggest that he’d be better off playing in the minors. The second, and the version of Desharnais that we saw in December, is a slick playmaker that hustles every shift to compensate for his diminutive stature. Desharnais led all Canadiens in points, assists and powerplay points this month, while recording 3 multi-point games. The sole criticism I can muster for "Davy" this month is that his 48.4% in the face-off dot needs improvement. |

HM | P.K. Subban | 14 GP – 2 G – 4 A – 6 P – Plus 1 |
|
It should come as a surprise to no one that Subban again made his way onto the HW 3 Stars for the month. Although his point totals weren’t as impressive as in previous months, P.K. continued to display the defensive prowess that earned him the James Norris Trophy last year. Subban especially shone in losses this month, as his creatively and skills were often the sole reasons worth watching the Habs try to rally from a deficit. |
