The Habs made their second batch of cuts following Monday’s 6-3 at the hand
of the Bruins.  After the first wave saw only three players leave, this one
was much more significant as no fewer than 14 players were re-assigned. 
Three players were sent back to junior while eleven others will now try to
secure a spot with the Hamilton Bulldogs when their training camp gets underway
on Friday.

Returning to the junior ranks are recently signed G Zach Fucale (Halifax)
plus forwards Martin Reway (Gatineau) and Charles Hudon (Chicoutimi).  This
means that among the 2013 draft picks, only first rounder Michael McCarron
remains with the big club.  Off to Hamilton’s camp are the following:

G – Robert Mayer (will be waived when the preseason waiver period opens later
this week)
D – Darren Dietz, Morgan Ellis, Matt Lashoff, and Dalton Thrower
F – Sven Andrighetto, Stefan Fournier, Louis Leblanc, Stephen MacAulay, Joonas
Nattinen, and Erik Nystrom

Lashoff and Thrower both were sent down without inking a contract. 
Lashoff will now try to earn a minor league contract while Thrower is still
hoping to secure an entry-level deal from the Canadiens.  Thrower is also
eligible to be sent back to the WHL’s Vancouver Giants if he fails to secure a
contract.

38 players now remain in camp although only 33 of those are healthy. 
Alexei Emelin (knee) skated for the first time since his surgery recently but is
still likely a couple of months away from returning to game action.  Brian
Gionta (bicep) and George Parros (rotator cuff) are both hoping to be ready for
the start of the regular season but aren’t available to play just yet while
Nathan Beaulieu and Steve Quailer are the Bulldog-bound players that are
currently sidelined.
