Sources tell Habsworld.net that the Habs are on the verge of signing D Joe
Stejskal to an entry-level contract, which should be completed in the next 24-48 hours. Stejskal was a 5th round selection of
Montreal in 2007, 133rd overall. The 6’3, 211 lb blueliner recently
finished up his senior year at Dartmouth College.
This season, he played in all but 1 of Dartmouth’s 34 games, collecting 3
goals and 2 assists to go along with 37 penalty minutes. In his 4 year
career, he has 14 goals, 18 assists, and 162 penalty minutes in 126 contests.
Stejskal is known primarily for his shot and physical play but his all-around
game has improved.
As part of the entry level deal, he will sign an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO)
with the Hamilton Bulldogs and is expected to be available for Hamilton’s next
game, Friday night in Rockford. The Habs had until August 15th to sign
Stejskal, who was ranked 32nd in HW’s Prospect Rankings prior to the season.
March 22 update: The deal is now official, a 2 year pact commencing next season. Financial terms have not yet been released.
