The Hamilton Bulldogs’ coaching staff underwent some major changes on Tuesday
as it was announced that assistant coaches Martin Raymond and Daniel Lacroix
were leaving the team to join ex-Bulldog coach Guy Boucher on the Tampa Bay
staff. Replacing them will be Randy Cunneyworth, the new head coach, and
Randy Ladouceur as the lone assistant.
Cunneyworth joins the Habs organization from the Thrashers, where he spent
the past two seasons as an assistant to former Atlanta bench boss John Anderson.
Before that, he was with the AHL’s Rochester Americans for nine years, including
the final seven as head coach. In 2004-05, he won the Coach of the Year
award. In 560 games as the Amerks’ bench boss, he compiled a 258-214-88
record.
Cunneyworth played 866 games in the NHL for 6 different teams, including the
Ottawa Senators where he played under current Montreal coach Jacques Martin for
2.5 seasons. His final year of pro hockey was 1999-2000 where he not only
was an assistant for Rochester but a player as well.
Ladouceur’s last NHL affiliation was with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he
served as an assistant to Paul Maurice. He also worked with Maurice from
1996-2004 with the Hartford Whalers and Carolina Hurricanes. Last season,
he was an assistant coach of the OHL’s Niagara Ice Dogs who finished 7th in the Eastern Conference.
