Mathieu Darche was re-signed to a 1-year, 550,000$ extension on Tuesday. The new contact is reportedly a one-way deal, meaning that he will now need to clear waivers if he is demoted to the minors.
Darche started last season with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs where he registered 25 points in 32 games.
In mid-January, the 33-year-old was called up and quickly managed to stick with the club. In 29 games, he contributed five goals and five assists and seemed to bring stability to the Habs’ fourth line. In the post-season, Darche appeared in 11 of the team’s 19 contests but only managed one assist in that span.
The Montreal native initially signed with the Canadiens on July 2, 2009.
In his career, he has amassed 13 goals and 21 assists along with 30 penalty minutes in 130 regular-season games.
