It was a game where the Habs were in it right
to the bitter end but they just couldn’t find a way to beat Martin Brodeur when
it counted most in the 3rd period as the Devils beat Montreal 4-2 on Saturday.
The Habs never led in the game, trailing 1-0 after 1 and 3-2 after 2.
Andrei Kostitsyn and Tomas Plekanec scored for the Habs while Patrik Elias,
Jamie Langenbrunner, Dainius Zubrus, and Brian Rolston replied for New Jersey.
HW 3 Stars of the Night:
1) Andrei Kostitsyn: We were all hoping he’d return to form when
Cammalleri returned and he certainly hasn’t disappointed. He fanned on a
couple of good chances early but got the Habs on the board in the 2nd which
really seemed to get him going.
Statline: 1 goal, 1 assist, +1 rating, 2 shots on goal (6 attempts), 2
hits, 20:14 TOI
2) Mike Cammalleri: He had a quiet but effective game in this one,
setting up both goals. For whatever reason, he seems more hesitant to
shoot now but it worked for the most part tonight. A few days off should
do him some good as he seemed to tire towards the end.
Statline: 2 assists, +1 rating, 1 blocked shot, 21:33 TOI
3) Tomas Plekanec: Considering his linemates appear above him, it’s not
much of a surprise to see the third member of this trio hit make the list as
well. Though his goal was a bit of a fluke, he did lead the team in shots
tonight which counts for something given the general lack of chances the team
had.
Statline: 1 goal, +1 rating, 5 shots, 45% faceoffs (9/20), 2 hits, 21:03
TOI
HM) Travis Moen: It’s still impressive to even see him out there
considering that cut, but he brought it tonight. He was one of the few
players to even attempt a hit out there and played well defensively.
Statline: 0 points, -1 rating, 1 shot, 3 hits, 1 blocked shot, 13:52 TOI.
Stat of the Night: To say Tom Pyatt didn’t play as much as usual is quite
the understatement as he played just 4:44 Saturday. To compare, his season
average is 11:28.
