The Canadiens made a pair of moves with
training camp on the horizon on Friday, acquiring Robert Lang from Chicago in
exchange for Toronto’s 2nd round draft choice in 2010. Shortly thereafter,
the club announced the re-signing of veteran defenceman Patrice Brisebois to a 1
year deal, reportedly worth $750,000.
Lang, a 6’2, 215 lb centre spent last season with the Blackhawks, after coming
over from Detroit in the summer of 2007. He’s on the last year of a 2
year, $8 million deal. Last year, he recorded 21 goals and 33 assists in
76 games, with 50 PIMS and a +9 rating. He also did well at the faceoff
dot, winning over 53% of his draws. He’s been a model of consistency over
late, as this was the 8th straight year he recorded over 50 points. The
draft pick was acquired earlier this season in the Mikhail Grabovski trade.
Last year, Brisebois played 43 regular season games with the Habs, picking up 3
goals and 8 assists to go along with 26 PIMS and a -2 rating. He had a
strong postseason, playing in 10 of Montreal’s 12 games, tallying a goal and 5
assists. Brisebois is just 53 regular season games shy of the 1,000 mark
and 7 goals away from 100.
