Over the past week, eight of our HW staff
members each did a complete ranking of the Montreal Canadiens prospects.
In determining our rankings, each staff member ranked their top-30 of the 33
players you’ll see below. Any prospect who was not ranked received a 31.
After all the votes were cast, the rankings were then added up, with the lowest
score being the best. Ties were broken by the player who received the
highest individual ranking.
Excluded from the rankings:
– Young NHL’ers such as Carey Price, Jaroslav Halak, Ryan O’Byrne, and Sergei
Kostitsyn were not ranked as they are projected to have an everyday spot in
Montreal’s lineup.
– Players under AHL only deals such as Thomas Beauregard and David Desharnais,
as technically, they are not property of the Habs.
– Players who were under contract with the Habs, have since gone overseas, but
remain property of the team as they have been given qualifying offers (examples:
Andre Benoit and Janne Lahti.)
– Recently signed G Robert Mayer, as the ranking process began prior to him
signing with Montreal.

Some interesting notes:
Ryan McDonagh (2nd) actually received more 1st place votes than top-ranked Max
Pacioretty, however, Pacioretty received 7 top-2 votes and McDonagh just 5.
Gregory Stewart (17th) had the most volatile difference in rankings, as the high
and low votes were separated by 25.
The most NR’s went to Loic Lacasse, whose high of 23 was the only ranking he
received.
