The 2005 MasterCard Memorial Cup commences on May 21st, as the top junior teams from each league battle it out for national supremacy. There is, of course, the allure of hotshot prospect Sidney Crosby, but Montreal Canadien fans have another player to follow, 2003 draftee Danny Stewart, who plays alongside Crosby with the Rimouski Oceanic. Here, we’ll track Stewart’s accomplishments, as well as the tournament standings, results, and schedule. All games can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet, beginning this Saturday when QMJHL Champion Rimouski takes on OHL Champion and the host team, the London Knights. First off, the list of teams and the tournament format: List of Teams: Tournament Format: Now, here are the stats for Habs’ prospect Danny Stewart: Danny Stewart – Rimouski Oceanic – Number 8 – QMJHL Totals
London Knights (OHL Champions, host team)
Ottawa 67’s (OHL Finalists)
Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL Champions)
Kelowna Rockets (WHL Champions)
The round-robin portion will see each team play each other once. The 1st place team after 3 games receives an automatic bye into the finals, while 2nd and 3rd will pair off in the semis; the winner of that game will play the top team. The 4th place team is eliminated after the round-robin. Any tie breaking games will be played Friday, May 29th. All games must be fully decided, there are no ties. No points are awarded for OTL’s, however they will still be noted in the standings.
