On Monday, Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced the re-signing of W Marc-Andre Thinel to a 1 year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Last season, the St. Jerome, QC native split the season between the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL, and the Columbus Cottonmouths of the ECHL. With Columbus, Thinel recorded 42 points (17-25-42) in 47 games, along with 32 minutes in penalties. With the Bulldogs, Thinel had a goal and an assist (1-1-2) in 14 regular season games. In the postseason, he appeared in 8 contests, scoring a goal, to go along with 6 penalty minutes.
Thinel, at 6’0 and only 178 pounds, was drafted in the 5th round, 145th overall by the Canadiens in 1999. He is expected to push for a full-time roster spot with the Bulldogs this upcoming season.
