Montreal played some of its best hockey in rallying from a three-games-to-one deficit against second-seeded Boston in the first round. In winning the final three games, Montreal used its team speed and the brilliance of goaltender Jose Theodore to outscore the Bruins, 12-3, and unexpectedly advance. [Matchup article @ NHL.com]

The Canadiens will need Rivet and Theodore to continue to close the door on the opposition if the Canadiens are to pull another upset in the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs. One of their tasks will be to shut down the high-flying Martin St. Louis, who led the NHL in scoring during the regular season. Montreal will also need Zednik, Kovalev and Koivu to continue their scoring ways if the Habs are going to have any success against the stingy Nikolai Khabibulin, who has microscopic 0.79 GAA coming into the matchup.

Tampa Bay. Special teams could use a jolt in this series with the Canadiens. Tampa Bay’s power play was only 16th overall during the regular season and scored only twice in 23 chances against the Islanders. Killing penalties, the Lightning were 10th during the regular season and killed off eight of 10 Islanders’ power plays in the first round.
