Toronto (38-21-9-3) at Montreal (37-26-6-3)
With 10 games left in the regular season, Montreal is fourth in the Northeast, just five points behind Toronto and Ottawa, and seven from Boston. Alexei Kovalev and Jim Dowd will try to accept the challenge of the storied Habs-Leafs rivalry tonight. The Bell Center is sure to be sold out, as fans of both teams will be joined by a huge audience from Hockey Night in Canada. Fans will be treated to a possible playoff preview. If Toronto wins, they could climb to just one point out of second in the East and they would face the conference’s seventh-place team, possibly the Habs.
“Saturday will be exciting”, said Claude Julien. “It’s been a long time since we’ve beaten the Leafs here in the Bell Center, it’s our turn.”
Montreal are in the middle of a winless streak at home vs the Leafs (0-3-3-1) and their last victory came in late March of 2001 against these Leafs.
The Maple Leafs have added a few new players to their team, as veterans Brian Leetch and Ron Francis were acquired at the trading deadline. In the past 10 games, Toronto only has five wins and the leadership of Francis and Leetch might help the team get back on track.
Total Payroll: Toronto 73 511 878 $ vs Montreal 46 232 000 $
