The Habs will try to record their seventh victory in eight games without the newly acquired right wing Alexei Kovalev. They lost him to a right shoulder injury throught the second period in Phoenix while he was checked into the boards by Coyote Ossi Vaananen. He’s listed day-to-day and should make a return Monday against Anaheim. Jimmy Dowd debut with the Canadiens was memorable as he converted a pass from Andreas Dackell on a 2-on-1 to give an advance to Montreal.
Now, Montreal with the victory agaisnt Phoenix have moved three points behind the defending Stanley Cup champions in the sixth-place and five points in front of the eight-place NY Islanders.
Los Angeles, which holds the eight spot in the Western Conference, have just win one of its last four games (1-2-1-1). Kings coach Andy Murray knows his team has to get back on a winning streak if they hopes to hold on to a playoff spot. They have won consecutive games just once in the last month and a half.
Kings center Martin Straka returned to action after missing 23 games due to arthroscopic surgery on both knees.
This is the only encounter between the teams this season. The teams split two games last season with each winning at home.
