The trade deadline has come and gone, but at least one big move has snuck in past the deadline, that being Geoff Sanderson to Vancouver. Bob Gainey stood pat, clearly happy with his team’s success and recent acquisitions, but did lose one body. Chad Kilger was claimed by the Toronto Maple Leafs, then traded enforcer Sylvain Blouin to Vancouver for a prospect defender..
Yanic Perreault, Joe Juneau, and Andreas Dackell remain with the team, as Bob Gainey obviously felt that their efforts either throughout the season or recently have meritted a stay until the end of the season, when the trio will be part of a group of Habs who become Unrestricted Free Agents.
Elsewhere around the league, the Canucks were able to add some secondary scoring as well as adding some insurance in case, as expected, Todd Bertuzzi does not return for a while. Elsewhere, the other Canadian franchises in Edmonton, Ottawa and Toronto added to their clubs in a solid way. The Rangers continued to dump salary, and received more solid returns for their talented, yet perhaps overrated, veterans.
WAIVER CLAIMS: Mike Green (NYR), Bill Lindsay (WSH), Jean Luc Grand Pierre (WSH), Sandy McCarthy (NYR), Chad Kilger (TOR)
