In what looks like as the preview of the first playoff round, the Habs visit the second seed Boston Bruins. Begin and Brisebois are back in the lineup. The game will also be a battle of calder trophy contenders as Bruins goaltender Andrew Raycroft goes head to head with Habs winger Michael Ryder.

1st Period
1-0 Montreal (00:26) Ward broke in alone on Raycroft after a nice pass from Begin, Ward is brought down from behind by a Bruin hook, is awarded a penalty shot. Ward makes a nice deke and shot on the right side of the net. Zednik was the last player to score on a penality shot (Jan 20, 2004 vs Philadelphia)
Notes: Bruins outshot the habs 12-10 in the period. Habs had one PP, while the Bruins had none. S.Quintal led the Canadiens in icetime during the first period logging 7:40.
2nd Period
2-0 Habs (2:57) : Quintal makes it 2-0 Montreal with his first goal in 46 games. The play started just after a habs penalty kill, Ribeiro, Begin (leaving the penality box) and Quintal break down the ice on a 3 on 2. Begin trails back, Ribeiro carries the puck into down the left side into the Bruins zone while Quintal goes hard down the right side, Ribeiro waits and waits until he throws a great cross crease pass to Quintal, Quintal scores. Ribs 100th NHL point.
2-1 Bruins Score (11:39) : Bruins get consecutive PP’s and finally socre on the 2nd one. Samsonov carries the puck all by himself into the habs zone, sets up the play, passes to Gonchar at the point who blows a shot past Theodore who was being screened by Knuble, Knuble may have deflected the shot.
Notes: Bruins held an 11-8 shots edge in the period, and lead the game total 23-18. Bruins are 1/3 on the PP, while the habs are 0/1.
3rd Period
2-2 Bruins score: Samsonov ties the game up. A Bruins D-man takes a shot from the point, rebound goes to a wide open Samsonov in front of the net, after a nice deke he scores easily on Theodore.
Overtime
3-2 Bruins Win: Samsonov wins the game in 4 on 4 overtime. Slegr creates the whole play, then finds Samsonov with a nice pass between a habs defenders legs, Samsonov makes no mistake.
Notes: Habs clinch a playoff spot with the single point. Bruins had an 11-4 shots edge in 3rd, and 5-0 in OT , for a combined total of 39-22 Bruins. Habs went 1/3 on the PP (including a large portion of a 5 minute PP) , Bruins went 1/4 in the game.
