Canadiens defenceman Stephane Quintal was suspended Sunday for one game as a result of a play that occurred at the end of Saturdays game between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes. Quintal received a match penalty on the play for intent to injure after he kicked Bob Boughner during a fight.
“When he came after me, he wasn’t looking at me so I thought we weren’t going to fight,” Quintal said while he iced his right hand. “He kind of surprised me. He pulled me and tried to get me with the first punch. That’s why I was mad. If you want to fight me, just tell me and I’ll fight you fair.”
Quintal is eligible to return for Wednesdays game against the Rangers , and will lose $10,370 in salary.
