Good size and skating. Has very quick release on his wrist shot. Good
playmaker and decent speed. A threat in the offensive zone. Strong on his
skates, can handle himself along the boards and in his own end.
Weaknesses
Lack of confidence and consistency are his main weaknesses, along with
lacking intensity. Needs to shoot more often, as he looks to pass first. Lack of
physical play is a concern as well. Needs to learn how to use his size to his
advantage, and bring his game every night

HW Updates, by Dan Linn
2003-2004 Season Review – Hossa started off the season with
the Canadiens, but was unable to keep a spot in the roster, as he was sent back
to Hamilton to work on his intensity and consistency. After a slow start in
Hamilton, Hossa was able to pick things up and find his offensive game, as he
seemed to benefit from the playing on the line with Tomas Plekanec at times.
Many have questions about Hossa’s future with the team, as he has shown flashes
of skill and also suffered through some long scoring droughts, but if he works
hard and starts carrying or shooting the puck more, he should have more success
in the near future.
Canadiens Mid-season Top 20 – (6th) Hossa drops a
few spots as other prospects have been enjoying a very successful start to the
season, whereas the young Slovak has had his troubles scoring goals at times.
Having a brother who may be one of the top hockey players in the world
currently, may be causing the younger Hossa to hold his stick too tight or not
tight enough, as he has been demoted to the AHL again, as the goals have been
hard to come by. A natural center that was moved to the left wing, Hossa may be
having difficulty adjusting to his position, as some players have trouble
getting used to the mental side of the game when moved from playing a certain
spot for several years. Some time in the AHL should do him some good, as he can
work on things without the heavy pressure of the Montreal media questioning his
every move or lack of.
January 2004 – Goals have been hard to come by for the
younger Hossa, as he has lit the lamp only two times so far since being demoted
to Hamilton. But with a shot like his, it’s only a matter of time before he
picks up his touch again, hopefully soon as the Dogs head into the playoff drive
with less then 40 games to go. Coach Jarvis seems to have confidence him Hossa,
as he has shown some hard work for the most part, just can’t seem to find the
back of the net and not for lack of chances as he is getting over two shots a
game.
December 2003 – After being demoted again, Hossa took a spot
on the top line, and has been able to get some good scoring chances, as he
hopefully is able to find the confidence he once had.
