HW Updates, by Dan Linn
Canadiens Mid-season Top 20 – 7. Cory Urquhart- C. (8th) Urquhart moves up one spot as he has shown impressive development over each year he’s played in the QMJHL. Recently drafted in the second round, 45th overall, Urquhart has been one of the top scorers for the Rocket over the last two seasons, and has been one of the top scorers in the entire QMJHL all season long. A strong finish again the playoffs could land Urquhart a trip to the AHL next season, as he has displayed the skill level, but may have trouble with the physically stronger defensemen of the American league.
March 2004 – Playoffs Report – PEI Rocket– The PEI Rocket will take on Patrick Roy’s team the Quebec Remparts, in the first round of the playoffs which get started tonight the 19th. The Rocket are coming off one of their better seasons in the Q, after moving from Montreal to PEI, lead by Michael Lambert, Cory Urquhart and Maxim Lapierre offensively and tough guy Jimmy Bonneau as a solid role player. In last years playoffs, Urquhart lead the team with an impressive 15 points, while this year saw Lambert score over 40 goals, and Lapierre was a all round force on a nightly basis. This should be a great experience for the Hab prospects, especially Lambert who’s trying to convince management to take a chance on him and sign him to a professional contract this summer, or let him reenter the NHL entry draft. Lambert and Urquhart have formed an impressive duo all season long, with Lapierre joining the line at times, which has built chemistry between them that should benefit them down the road when they reach the AHL and beyond.
February 2004 – Urquhart is second on his team in scoring, as he has been neck and neck with Lambert all season long for the team scoring lead. The Urquhart/Lambert connection has been very effective all season, as Urquhart seems to be able to find Lambert who continues to burry his chances.
January 2004 – Urquhart is second on his team in scoring, as he has been neck and neck with Lambert all season long for the team scoring lead. Urquhart has also had his scoring pace slowed, as he too has needed to battle through some minor injuries as well.
December 2003 – Urquhart is 2nd on his team in scoring, and sits near the top of the Q in scoring. He also took part in the remax games, and sadly he was invited to the selection camp either.
November 2003 – The Lambert Urquhart line has been one of the better lines in the Q, as they wreak havoc on the Q goalies and defense. Urquhart is 2nd on the team in scoring, and 3rd in the QMJHL in scoring as well. Urquhart also has been named to the Remax games vs Team Russia, and has an outside chance of making Team Canada as well.
October 2003 – Picking up from last seasons playoffs, Urquhart is 2nd on the PEI Rocket in scoring, and 7th in the Q in scoring, while playing on the top line. He has had some difficulties in the face-off circle so far this season.
October 2003 – Special Report – (‘03, 2nd round 40th)C. Urquhart after an impressive showing at the Habs rookie camp, may have learned a few things, as he has been his team’s top player since he was returned to the Rocket of PEI for the 3rd game of the season. Since his arrival, he’s been on a goal scoring pace of one a game and close to two points an night average. He’s not only leading his team in scoring, but he’s one of the top scorers in the QMJHL so far. Playing under coach Alain Vigneault, Cory gets top line ice time and plays in all situations.
September 2003 – picking up where he left off in last seasons playoffs, Urquhart is already one of the top goal scorers in the league, even though he missed two games while at the Habs camp. In the six games he’s played, he’s picked up seven goals, two assists, eight penalty minutes, while being a -2. 6-7-2-9 8 -2 Cory plays on the top line for PEI, and can play in all situations, which should give him a good amount of ice time. Does need some work on his face-off abilities.
