Strengths
Buturlin uses his excellent
stickhandling, and on ice vision to setup plays in the offensive zone. Decent
size and skating, help him make room for himself, while being solid in his own
end.
Weaknesses
Lack of breakaway speed, and fluid skating
could push him to lower line duty. Not the most gifted goal scorer, could
benefit from improvement in his overall game, as he doesn’t do anything
exceptionally well.

Canadiens Mid-season Top 20 – Alex Buturlin- RW/LW
(21st) Buturlin makes the final spot, in a close call
between Eneqvist, Linhart and Stewart, but he’s having another solid season
playing on the top line for Lada of the Russian Super League. He is on pace for
a career year, as he is one of the leaders on the team, and top scorers as
well.
March 2004 – Playoffs Report – Lada– Alex Buturlin is
reaching the point where he won’t be considered a prospect much longer, as he
was drafted back in ‘99 and was the Habs first pick that year. After playing in
the OHL, Buturlin returned home to play in the Russian Super League where he had
some trouble adjusting to the league in his first year, but after switching
teams he has found a lot of success with Lada playing an important role with
them as a top six forward. Last year he was able to help his team go deep in the
playoffs, and this year he looks to do the same, as they take on Lokomotiv and
have won the first two games.
February 2004 – Points have been tough to come by lately, as
Buturlin has seen his offensive numbers stall, but he continues to play on the
top lines for Lada of the Russian Super League.
January 2004 – Points have been tough to come by lately, as
Buturlin has only picked up two goals over the last ten games, but he did leave
the team to join the Russian Senior National Team, where he played on the fourth
line in his first trip to the Karjala Cup but was held pointless in the two
games he played.
December 2003 – Playing on the 1st and
2nd line, Buturlin is one of the top scorers on his team. He plays
mostly on the top line, on either wing, and is currently on pace to out preform
last years numbers. He’s 3rd on the team in scoring, even after
missing the first five games of the year due to injury.
November 2003 – Playing on the 1st and
2nd line, Buturlin is one of the top scorers on his team. He was also
named to the Russian Senior National Team recently, although he did not pick up
any points in the two games he played for them.
October 2003 – Playing on the top line for Lada, Buturlin
has returned from injury, and is playing well. Hopefully he keeps producing,
which may force management to consider brining him over to North America at some
point in the future.
September 2003 – Recently returned from injury, after being
named to the Russian Senior National Team. A minor groin injury kept him out of
the lineup for Lada, but he is back and in two games, has picked up three
assists and two penalty minutes. 2-0-3-3 2 Once again he should be playing on
the top line and in all situations which should give him a good amount of ice
time.
