Montreal Barely Avoids Falling Into Trap: HW 3 Stars

Edmonton and Montreal are certainly not known for their scoring prowess, both ranking in the bottom echelons of the league in terms of goals. However, the teams combined for 8 goals in what was an entertaining and dishevelled affair.Full Story

Preview - Montreal vs. Edmonton Oilers – March 11th 2010

After a convincing effort against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, the Canadiens look to continue their hot streak against the last-place Oilers. However, as the games are played on the ice and not on paper, it will be important for the Habs’ not to fall into the obvious trap of taking the Oilers lightly. Bottom line, given that Montreal has played more games than anyone in the league, these are points they cannot afford to lose. Full Story

Bulldogs Weekly Recap (Mar 3-6)

The Hamilton Bulldogs have 16 games remaining to be played on their 2009-2010 schedule as they chase down a spot for the upcoming Calder Cup playoffs. The only AHL team who has clinched a playoff spot so far is the League-leading Hershey Bears in the Eastern Conference, who currently sit at the top of the standings with 100 points. But the Bulldogs, with 92 points, are nipping at their heels.

HW Recap: Habs get it done out West

Fresh off the Olympic break, the Habs were forced to the road for 4 games this week, winning 3 in impressive fashion. In Hamilton, the longest homestand of the season continued with the Bulldogs winning all 3 of their contests; they now are just 5 points away from clinching the playoffs. It was a quiet deadline in Montreal but there is a silver lining in that, while the Final Thought examines why we better used to the action we saw on March 3rd for future deadlines. This, plus the return of the Power Rankings, in the Recap.Full Story

Habs trade D'Agostini to St. Louis

The Habs decided to get a jump on trade deadline day on Tuesday night, making their 4th trade of the season. The club acquired prospect winger Aaron Palushaj from St. Louis in exchange for struggling winger Matt D'Agostini. Palushaj was a 2nd round pick of the Blues in 2007, 44th overall. For the record, the player selected right before him: P.K. Subban. Full Story

Role Players Sink Bruins: HW 3 Stars

Both teams seem to have had a fair amount of rust to shake off following the two-week Olympic break. There were many turnovers and missed chances at both ends tonight, as some players seemed to have difficulty regaining their timing. Andrei Kostitsyn missed a few golden opportunities, namely when he failed to capitalize on a pretty passing play late in the middle frame. Josh Gorges did not look like his usual self, getting caught slightly out of position on the first Boston goal and committing a rather egregious giveaway behind his net in the second. Full Story

48 hours after two rival nations faced each other for Olympic Gold, another classic rivalry resumes as the Boston Bruins host the Montreal Canadiens. Both squads are among the teams fighting for a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference, sitting 7th and 8th. With about 20 games remaining in the regular season, every match is crucial. The Habs stumbled into the Olympic Break, losing a home-and-away series with the Philadelphia Flyers that featured many Hamilton Bulldog call-ups.Full Story

Canadiens Olympic Recap

The Olympic Hockey Tournament certainly lived up to its hype, concluding with a thrilling final that saw Canada capture the gold medal on a Sidney Crosby overtime marker. While no Canadiens player managed to capture a medal, it should be noted that Pierre Gervais, the Habs equipment manager, was part of the Canadian contingent. In any event, it is a good time to take one final look at how the Canadiens’ players fared in these OlympiadsFull Story
